This self-paced course provides an overview of human subjects research (HSR), the role of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Stanford, and the ethical and regulatory framework that governs research with human participants. Participants will learn how to determine whether a project qualifies as human subjects research, what types of studies require IRB review, and how to navigate Stanford’s eProtocol submission system. The course also covers the IRB review process along with a review of the key elements of informed consent. Stanford-specific policies, resources, and submission tips will also be discussed.
